Living through days with life’s challenges, whether it is selling a product, to own the biggest toys, to grow a business, to find free time or just being who you want to be – it’s tough to stay motivated! There always seems to be a hurdle in every project, a challenge in every relationship or some setback in every plan. There is always someone or something getting in the way of your dreams. Been there?
So how do I keep myself motivated with the unending, unceasing attacks on my motivation?
How do I keep from weakening under the weight of criticism, negativity, personal failures, setbacks, financial struggles, testing relations and life in general?
Let me share with you the day-to-day actions I have used for over twenty years. Actions that have carried me through trial after trial and challenge after challenge! I have been using the same self-motivational actions through times of success and failure, times of great gain and great loss, times of abundance and times of lack.
Before I reveal it all, let me ask you some questions.
Some you may relate to and some may be meant for “other guy” (so send this to him:) ).
- What could be the same driving factor for you to pursue a long lasting relationship and to make more money?
- Why do you want to buy the latest fashions?
- Why do you dream of a better life or a bigger house or a faster car?
- What is the driving factor behind all success?
How’s this for an answer:
Because every human being has an inner need to rule!
You were not designed to be anyone’s or anything’s slave! It is a natural internal instinct to improve one’s life and to have the best. It is part of your design to possess – not just toys or property, but possess the life that you know you deserve. The life free of debt, free of stress, free to do what you want, free to travel and free to be the best you! Perhaps most of all to be free to be an influence in someone’s life or in your country! To possess life! Abundant life! You have a natural drive to improve, make things bigger, achieve more, succeed, and make progress and to have the best.
It is a drive that can ruin you completely or it is a drive that you can use to motivate you to achieve anything (but that is a different topic on another day).
What does this have to do with motivation?
Being as we can all identify the “natural inner drive for more” it would make sense that we need to have something to channel that natural drive into. We need to have something greater than what we have now to move towards. That inner drive needs direction and something to strive for.Your inner drive needs to “see” where it is going. It needs a challenge in order to stay alive. That internal need to rule needs something (not someone) to rule over. Your human nature to conquer needs something to conquer. When you have a clear, definable picture in your head as to where you are going your inner drive will be fuelled for life – motivated for life.
Let me give you a list of the actions
that I have successfully used to keep myself motivated for over twenty years. You can start using them now and I would encourage you to use them every day – especially on the hard days. I’ll tell you why at the end.

“A picture is worth a thousand words,” they say. So, decide what you want, whether materialistic, emotional, lifestyle, career etc and literally find and put up pictures of what you want. Not just on your computer – in your bedroom, in your office, on the back of the bathroom door, behind the visor in your car.

Write your story. This is one of the most fulfilling, self-motivating activities for me. Whether with a computer or your pen a paper, take time and write, using as much detail as you can the “future-story-of-you-life”. Where will you live, what will you do from the time you wake up, what work will you do, what companies will you own, what cars will you drive, what countries will you visit, what charities will you support, what leadership role will you play, what size garden will you have, what features will you have in your home – every detail.
Write out the conversations you will have with the Presidents or celebrities and even write out what you will do every hour for one week after you have achieved financial freedom. Describe your relationship with your spouse, your friends and family.

Read about other people who have had unusual success – especially in line with what you want to achieve. Their stories will always inspire you to go for your dream. “If they can do it you can do it – even better and bigger!” You will also learn from their mistakes!

Go “window shopping”. Go to travel agents, not just online, and ask for books and brochures to the places you want to see. Get dressed smart and go look at the car you want drive. Take a slow drive through the richest part of town. Go try a suit on at the most expensive shop in town.

Write out and memorize you personal Life-Vision-Statement. One powerful line that describes who and what you will be and be known for – stated as if you are now

Daydream. Whether at night or on coffee break close your eyes and “see your success.” Replay the “future-story” in your mind in every detail using all your five senses to experience it.

Motivate someone else to go for his or her dream. You will be amazed at how motivated you are after inspiring someone else. Ever heard of the principle “you reap what you sow”? Well it works with motivation also.
Conclusion
It is that simple! I said I would tell you why. Your brain is designed to make happen what ever it believes and it will believe what ever it is told long enough! So, use whatever methods you need to create a huge “success” picture in your head and give your inner drive to rule, something to rule. Try it, what do you have to loose?
When the hardships come and the critics voice their opinion, stop and remember the dream. That is why you do what you do and why you go through what ever it takes.
