IdiotThis past month I looked at a couple of web hosting options – opening new accounts and just checking things out. I need some big bandwidth and space but also good service and nice features. Don’t I just sound like a client! Want the world! So I ended up at IMHosted.com with their amazing 12 000 gigabyte bandwidth hosting package. But unfortunately they ended up to be incompetent in too many ways (in my very own opinion) but judge for yourself.

This is what happened:

  1. On their website they state it will take up to 6 hours max even in holidays. Wow, isn’t that awesome service? Well it took them 2 days just to get back to me. Then another couple of hours before it was setup. Aaarrgghh!
  2. Ok, setup great! According to their “Special Package” I wasn’t supposed to pay for setup, and guess what? Yes I paid, but though ok I will ask them after signup to refund.(maybe an error on their side)
  3. I emailed them, never got a response. I asked about the setup fees with other emails I sent them and no response about that. Still waiting…
  4. So we started moving over domains. Creating the packages on their CP and running a DNS update on my side. Then…. I get errors from my domain registrar – Invalid DNS. So I contact them and they treat me like an idiot – Like I don’t know how it works… Eventually they look on their side and the next day I get an email stating it has been resolved and I should try again. Wow, it actually worked.
  5. More domain pointings -> Same error, so I contact them again. So they tell me its on my side………. Now I was getting pissed. The same time while I didn’t know my college was busy with them via email also and they told him “We have to ‘activate’ it from our side first for security reasons” – What the @#$@#. Do they just tell stories and get bananas for lunch?

So now today, I still don’t have my money back. Still struggling with domain DNS updates and still working with these people. Will I stay? hhhmmm

Update on the insaneGB.com article I posted a while ago – I setup an account with them to test it out. Very nice CP and speed is not too bad but the next day my database was gone and their own website was off. Kinda creeped me out! So it might be a bit risky so don’t host any important domains there. Their support is also a bit… Interesting… But hey, try them out and let us know how they are: InsaneGB.com

Hi Phillip

Nice site! About the hosting – I make use of ICDSoft (http://www.icdsoft.com/). I don’t know if they have to most bandwidth and capacity, but their support is unbelievable! The also have great backup services. These are the reasons I picked them.

@Bernard – Thanks, but the issue is that they only offer 40GB bandwidth a month and I will be using a lot. Probably about 10 – 50 gigabyte a day for flash downloads etc. Wow your site http://www.woozashop.co.za looks awesome!

Just a thought… have you considered http://www.wwkiosk.com? These guys know and provide service. They’ve got a ton of packages, even to the point of your own server (not shared).

Phillip – try Fused Network! They’ve got brilliant support and offer semi- dedicated server options at affordable rates. Plus, I can get you a 25% discount on any package! :)

InsaneGB is plain terrible. It used to be good, but … not anymore. I’ll be posting my entire experience to my blog, and then I’ll link from here.

Everyone needs to know what’s going on behind those doors.

I think if you really are going to for web hosting, then go with the big names such as BlueHost and Dreamhost
