If you’re not using any type of keyword research tool on the web this might just be for you. And it’s absolutely free! It was built by Softnik at Goodkeyword.com and there’s no registration, no payments, no ads and is just a 500kb download. I personally use WebCEO but this piece of software is much more basic, in a good and bad way. Well I mean, it’s free! 
Very standard but if you aren’t using anything at the moment this will improve your internet marketing (SEO & PPC) a lot.

Keyword Suggestion Tool
It basically helps you find keywords that has a large amount of searches in a month. You type in any keyword related to your website and it retrieves that keyword and similar combinations of your keywords back with a number of searches per month
Misspelled Keywords
This feature helps you find keywords that users may misspell when searching. Can come in handy with some major keywords like “affliate” is searched for a lot when actually searching for “affiliate”
Web Page Explorer
This tool helps you to do some research on your competitor’s websites. It displays their keyword density and other info.
Keyword Phrase Builder
I love this tool! :/ After you get your new keywords you use this tool to build keyword phrases to use in your pages or even a domain name.
Site and Link Popularity
Exactly what the title says, you can view the links that different search engines has retrieved and also Alexa ranking and Google’s pagerank.
Keyword Organizer
Just a basic organizer for all your results. You can add groups for different pages or websites.
Overall it’s a good program to have for basic keyword research. They also have another program called IM ToolPad which is a paid version but I haven’t had a look at it yet. Hope you enjoy the program and feel free to give comments of the software after you checked it out.

I have used this tool before. It’s nice, but basic as you said.
Their full product is nothing compared to other leading SEO softs.
This is more of a marketing stunt, but it’s ok for newbs
I can recommend you use seodigger.com for keyword tracking, just trace your best competitors keywords and positions in SERP, they’ve done all the work allready
.
And try SeoQuake, seo toolbar. It can analyze anything you may need including keyword density on a page. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3036/ – for Firefox. seoquake.com – for IE.
